Wonky X's

Here is another small quilt top I made last week. Wonky X's - or crosses -  I'm still not sure what I'll call it yet. It was very quick and easy! I bought a layer cake of 30 fabrics from Intown Quilters probably 2 or 3 years ago and thought I would make it like a sample they had in the shop. However, recently I saw a blog showing Wonky Crosses and decided I would try it. There are some good pictures there.

 My squares were 10" and I cut 1 1/2" strips off of each side, which meant one set of strips was longer than the other. It still worked except I had to cut my blocks down probably a half inch more because of this. They still finished at 7.25". If you were just cutting from yardage or fat quarters, you could have all your strips longer like below.

But that's okay - I did not lose too much. Now, I have no fabric to go with this for a border since it's a little small but I'll probably find something that will work. As you can see, the X's are going two different directions because some of my fabrics were not all 'right sides up'. Honestly, it did not matter to me for this quilt. Still fun and a playful look.

Now, another quilt top to quilt when I get home! I am having fun getting this sewing done.

I worked on my Easy Street Mystery quilt last week also and got all but two blocks completed. Somehow I had miscounted on my green squares and did not bring any extra fabric with me so I will finish it later. Maybe I'll have some quilts for the quilt show, October 11th and 12th in North Augusta, SC - Pieceful Hearts Quilt Guild after all!

Hugs and Kisses

I completed this quilt top over the weekend. It was a UFO from, hmmm, maybe 2004. I had made all the blocks, sewn the applique by machine and just had it filed away neatly in a plastic shoebox for all these years. When I made it, I did not know of a baby girl being born to give it to but just liked the colorful cute quilt on the front of this magazine below from 2003.

 It is a good thing I had completed the applique earlier because I would not be wanting to do that just now. It went together very quickly though and I will bind it with the stripe below. My friend, Nancy, and I were just talking of forgetting details about those UFOs we bring out to finish. There were some filler fabrics needed and I had to go find them from my stash - they had not made it into the shoe box. I had no idea the project was so old until I looked at the magazine date.

This quilt will be for Lacey when she comes to visit at Nana's house - perfect for a sweet little girl!

My husband is being treated for prostate cancer and we are staying near the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. This treatment is a type of radiation with less side effects than other treatment types and certainly a great alternative to the surgery that was recommended to him. He is writing a blog to share mostly with other men who may be facing this type of cancer. He is doing great, very pleased with the treatment he is receiving here and this is my temporary sewing room for now. I brought several projects to work on while we are here. Stitch when you can! Pieceful Hearts Raffle Quilt Block

This is a block for our guild's raffle quilt that I just finished stitching. It was done with needle-turn appliqué. It is from the Piece O'Cake book, Fresh Picked Posies. We did a gray/silver pieced background because the guild is celebrating 25 great years!!
